This handsome double bass from the Rivière & Hawkes shop in London was made around 1885. These double basses were manufactured by the workshop of Gabriel Jacquet in Mirecourt, France at the request of Rivière & Hawkes for sale in London shop. This instrument has had a neck reset, new fingerboard, low B extension, a full new set up and strings in our workshop and plays like a dream. This model, unlike many of the other double basses made in Mirecourt at this time, has a more slender pattern and is very easy to play due to the shape of the upper shoulder and the break in the back. This instrument sounds huge and would be a dream double bass for orchestral playing, solo recitals, and auditions.
